Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security, a new risk intelligence solution designed to help financial institutions assess risks across the stablecoin payment lifecycle.
Unveiled at Money20/20 USA 2026, Stablecoin Security combines payment intelligence and blockchain analytics to help financial institutions identify fraud, sanctions exposure and financial crime risks before stablecoin transactions are completed.
Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security, a new risk intelligence solution designed to help financial institutions assess risks across the stablecoin payment lifecycle. Announced on October 19 at Money20/20 USA in Las Vegas, the solution launches with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails as its initial partners.
As stablecoins gain traction in cross-border transfers and business-to-business payments, financial institutions face growing challenges in monitoring transactions that move between traditional payment systems and blockchain networks.
Stablecoin Security addresses these challenges by combining payment intelligence with blockchain analytics. Delivered through a platform-agnostic API, it evaluates transaction context, source of funds, exposure to restricted parties and potential scam indicators.
The solution generates a risk score before a payment is completed and can be integrated into existing fraud prevention, compliance and case management systems.
Complex Transactions Create New Risk Challenges
Mastercard referenced research examining 593 million stablecoin transfer events generated by 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025.
The study found that nearly 60% of transfer events occurred within complex transactions involving multiple steps. The findings underline the limitations of assessing blockchain transfers as isolated payments and the importance of understanding the broader transaction context.
“Stablecoins are creating new possibilities for value exchange, but financial institutions need the right intelligence and controls to participate with confidence,” said Ann Johnson, Executive Vice President, Security Solutions at Mastercard.
Borderless.xyz and Keyrails Join as Initial Partners
Mastercard is working with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails, both participants in its Start Path Blockchain and Digital Assets program, to bring Stablecoin Security into payment operations.
Borderless.xyz connects financial institutions to licensed stablecoin providers across more than 113 countries and 72 currencies, while Keyrails focuses on high-value cross-border trade payments, particularly in emerging markets.
The initiative also forms part of Mastercard’s broader digital asset strategy, complementing Mastercard Crypto Credential and Crypto Secure.
Mastercard plans to expand the solution’s reach in 2027, including through BVNK, the stablecoin infrastructure provider it acquired in August 2026.
Stablecoin Security is launching initially in North America, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027.
The announcement highlights an increasingly important requirement for institutional stablecoin adoption: payment networks and financial institutions need risk intelligence that connects traditional transaction data with activity taking place on blockchain infrastructure.
